Patrick S. McDonough, AIA is a registered architect with wide-ranging experience in new traditional residential design, historic preservation, project programming, master planning, project management, construction documentation and construction review. He founded P. McDonough Architecture & Design LLC after being previously employed for over thirty years serving as a Senior Associate for several very well-known architectural firms in the Philadelphia region. Previous to that, he worked as an architect in Architectural Division at the National Park Service supervising the List of Classified Structures Inventory for Fort McHenry National Monument, Hampton National Historic Site in Maryland, Eisenhower National Historic Site, and Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania.

Patrick received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree from University of Florida; earning the James Kynes Memorial Scholar Award and the prestigious Albert Binder Travel Fellowship to further his studies at the Preservation Institute: Nantucket. While earning a dual Masters in Architecture & Historic Preservation at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Design he was awarded the Sir John Thouron Travel Award as well as the coveted Architecture/Preservation Thesis Prize. In 2009, the Philadelphia Chapter of American Institute of Architects selected him as their Young Architect Award Recipient. Over the course of Patrick’s career, many of his traditional design and preservation projects have been recognized for their excellence at the local, regional and national levels. His work has been published in Architectural Digest, Traditional Building, Period Homes, This Old House Magazine, House Beautiful, Better Homes & Gardens and many prominent architecture books including; Phillip Dodd’s books: The Classical American House, The Art of Classical Detailing I, The Art of Classical Detailing II, and Elizabeth Dowling’s Classical Interiors: Historical and Contemporary.

Patrick has also been actively engaged in numerous professional organizations including the American Institute of Architects, National Trust for Historic Preservation, University of Pennsylvania Design Alumni Association, Vice President of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (Philadelphia Chapter), Supervisor for the Architectural Experience Program at the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, Chairman of the Westtown Township, PA Historic Commission, Board Member of Friends of Moore-Irwin House in Upper Merion, and Friends of Crebilly Farm in Westtown. Patrick currently resides in West Chester, PA with his wife and two sons in a lovingly restored 1937 Arts & Crafts home.
